Abstract:
Reinforced concrete-framed structures are commonly preferred type of
buildings in Albania. Widely used types are two-way slab with beams, waffle, ribbed
slab and in last decades flat-slab type is getting more popular. It is important to
determine the proper slab type for new building design before construction in real life.
Proper slab selection is important not even in choosing the best cost but also to provide
best performance under gravity and lateral loads.
In this thesis, three different reinforced concrete slabs have been taken into study by
investigation their structural behavior with pushover analysis using ETABS software.
A seven-storey building with three different variants has been taken into study (purely
flat-slab, flat-slab with perimeter beams and flat-slab with total beams).
As a result of pushover analysis, the parameters such as base shear vs
displacement are performed using pushover analysis and compared. Consequently,
suggestions for choosing the most appropriate flat slab type is model “Flat slab with
total beams”. Numerical analysis indicate that adding perimeter beams to a purely flat
slab model will increase base shear vs displacement values by 27% and adding total
beams on model with perimeter beams will increase values by 91%.
