Abstract:
According to the Copenhagen political criteria, any candidate who want to be amember of the European Union must achieve the stability of institutionsguaranteeing democracy, the rule of law, human rights and respect for andprotection of minorities. The European Union accession process contributed to theprotection of human rights and minority rights in some of the Balkan countrieswhich had entered to the European Union especially in the latest round ofenlargement such as Bulgaria and Romania. These important/positive examples ofthe past enlargement process should also be taken into consideration by the othercandidate and potential candidate Balkan countries who want to accede to the EU.
